It’s the question everyone asks eventually: "What if I’m halfway through a routine and the lights go out?" When you rely on a rise-and-fall toilet or a smart bidet for your independence, the idea of a power cut can feel a bit daunting.
The good news is that we’ve designed Wash-able products with exactly these "what if" scenarios in mind. You aren't going to be stranded, and you certainly aren't going to be left without a working bathroom. Here is exactly how things work when the grid goes down.
1. The Lifting Mechanism: Safety First
If you are using a model like the Wash-able Levitate, the lifting and lowering motor is mains-powered. If the power cuts out while the toilet is in a raised position, the motor will simply stop exactly where it is.
It won't suddenly drop or "fail-safe" to the floor; that would be a safety risk. Instead, it stays locked in its current position until the power returns. This ensures you have a stable, solid seat to transition from. Because these units are built to be robust, you can still safely stand up from the raised position just as you would from a standard comfort-height chair.
2. Flushing Without the "Smart" Brain
Most people are surprised to learn that a power cut doesn't mean you can't flush. While the "auto-flush" sensor might be offline, we’ve included a couple of clever workarounds:
- The 9V Battery Backup: Many of our all-in-one units have a small compartment for a standard 9V battery. This battery is there for one reason: to power the flush valve during an outage. If you keep a fresh battery in there, your flush will work just like normal.
- Manual Override Buttons: On many Wash-able and Washloo models, there is a physical "side button" or manual flush knob. This bypasses the electronic remote and triggers a mechanical flush.
3. What About the Wash and Dry?
This is the only part that truly takes a "break" during a power cut. The water heater, the bidet spray pump, and the warm air dryer all require a fair amount of electricity to run. For safety reasons, these functions will stay off until the power is restored.
It’s worth noting that your electric bidet toilet seat will "remember" your settings. Once the lights come back on, you won't need to re-program your preferred temperatures or spray pressures - it’ll be ready to go exactly as you left it.
